Why Are Some People Smarter Than Others?

Why Are Some People Smarter Than Others?

This questions pops up every now and then, why are some people smarter than others? or in other words why are some people able to get the job done sooner than others? or why are some people able to get away with certain tricky situations while others can't?

The reason why this happens is because of several things that smart people do which others don't and moreover the manner in which they do things differently also matters a lot.

Here are few key differentiators that have immense impact on turning you from regular to smart:

Smart people have

  • Ability to apply tact sensitivity in tricky situations
  • Great ability to communicate both verbally and in written. Not just that, they also have the ability to listen, they know whom to listen to and when NOT to speak unless asked for
  • Skills to reason and apply logic while solving problems. They can divide a BIG problem into logical units and apply an organized approach to reach a solution
  • Immense ability to keep emotions out of business decisions, they keep anger, hatred, love etc. outside of business engagements
  • Ability to begin with the end in mind. Great focus on their future and know exactly what to do to reach there with a goal oriented approach
  • Willingness to learn from mistakes made by others. They have great power to learn by observing others.
  • Habit of reading good, positive books.
  • Habit of watching great videos.
  • Ability to work hard and have commonsense to understand that practice makes man perfect!

Smart people gives themselves time, they are not in a hurry to succeed, they are not impatient. They understand that there is no shortcut to success. They have the confidence in their skills and readiness to work hard day and night. They don't second guess themselves. They just DO it. They never give up!

Words Of Wisdom For Men

  1. Respect the other gender in every possible way.
  2. You are naturally gifted to have more physical strength than the other gender, don't boast of it.
  3. Be a gentleman and show it in your behavior.
  4. Read Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus: The Classic Guide to Understanding the Opposite Sex: John Gray this will help you understand that men and women are made and gifted differently.
  5. Anger is a wasted emotion. Mind your hand and your tongue. There are chances that you will repent for whatever you do and say.
  6. Must read How to Win Friends & Influence People: Dale Carnegie: Amazon.com. This is the mother of all books you need to follow.
  7. Age matters a lot. Start early. Shift left in every way possible, that is, invest early, learn early to take chances.
  8. What you actually "DO" matters a lot more than your "ABILITY to DO". There are people who say I wanted to write a book, I wanted to pursue higher education, I wanted to start my business, I wanted to write a novel, etc. etc. The point here is that they may really have the ability to do all these things but still most people don't succeed because they fail to DO. 80% of them would have succeeded had they started to take action and even got half way through.
  9. Drive your vehicle as if everyone else on the road is drunk.
  10. If a girl approaches you, talks to you, texts you or calls you then don't confuse it with love because it is NOT. There is no point in creating your own imaginary castles. Be really nice as would have been with a guy. Be genuine with no strings attached.
  11. Read and follow this book  Success is never ending, Failure is never final
  12. Have a firm handshake and look people in the eye
  13. Keep a notepad and a pen near your bed, you never know a million dollar idea may strike at 2 AM.
  14. Manliness is not only being able to take care of yourself, but of others as well.
  15. Don't underestimate yourself, go for women you perceive to be "Out of your reach/ league". You will surprise yourself.

H-1B L-1 Visa Fee Increases

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS) announced an increase in the visa processing fees for certain categories of work visas. This is applicable for certain H-1B and L-1 petitioners. Additional fee for H-1B petition is $4,000 and $4,500 for certain L-1A and L-1B petitions postmarked on or after December 18, 2015. This is according to the The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2016 (Public Law 114-113).

This is applicable to those petitioners who employ 50 or more employees in US with more than 50 percent of those employees in H-1B or L-1A and L-1B nonimmigrant status.

Note this fee is in addition to the base processing fee, Fraud Prevention and Detection Fee, American Competitiveness and Workforce Improvement Act of 1998 fee (when required), as well as the premium processing fee, if applicable.

Please refer to this article for complete details: H-1B and L-1 Visa Fee Increases

What is the impact due to this change?

  • Significant impact to IT Services companies or companies who are in offshore, dual shore or multi shore business models with US customers. Companies will now need to shell out more money for getting the H-1B and L-1A, L-1B visas done.
  • With the visa cost going higher, this move will inspire companies to now focus on hiring more and more local talent in US. It means more job opportunities for US citizens and Green Card holders. However, if the cost of hiring local employees is higher than the cost of H-1B or L-1 workers then the margins and profitability of businesses will get adversely impacted. To break even/ maintain the margins certain companies may even choose to hike their billing rates or charges to their end customers.
  • Number of people applying for US visa in H-1B and L-1A, L-1B categories will get reduced. Individuals or companies will now be more careful in their selection or shortlisting process. Not anyone or everyone will get the visa processed as the cost will matter a lot.
  • Companies will look for options other than the US, for example, locations like Mexico, Costarica, Canada will become important. These locations may prove to be better options for near shore operations with almost the same time zone as the US.
  • Last but not the least this may also impact the individuals who apply through consulting companies or IT service companies because companies may now ask for commitments like extended bond period or additional bond amount etc.

So if you are a H-1B or L-1A, L-1B aspirant then you may want to take this important change and the associated impact into account before planning your career move.

25 Amazing Air Travel Tips

Selecting your flight

  • Pick the airline that provides service to the cities you visit frequently. Be loyal to this airline. Even when you get some deals here and there, stick to the one you chose wisely. Being loyal will make you a frequent flier and in the long run churn benefits like, excellent customer service, free food or drinks, use of airport lounges, better deals on cancellation etc. Make sure you sign up for the frequent flier or rewards program.
  • Note the trends of the flights, avoid flights with consistent delays. Make sure you are well aware of the local times if you are traveling international. Plan for your food options well in advance.

Sign up for the TSA precheck/ Global Entry

  • TSA stands for Transportation Security Administration. TSA Pre is a program for expediting the security screening process. You need to sign up for it and it requires a fees. If you are eligible it verifies your status as a low-risk traveler, and the program allows you to expedite security screening every time you fly. Advantages are you do not need to remove your shoes, laptops, belts, 3-1-1 liquids, light jackets while going through the security check. Global Entry has the same benefits and also provides expedited Customs and Border Control screening for international travel.

Packing your bags

  • Selecting the right bags is the first important step. Every airline website has the details of the bag sizes and the maximum weight allowed per bag. Make sure you select the right bags.
  • Check your backage allowance before the flight. Especially if you have connecting flights with different airlines.
  • Pack your essentials for the airport, for example, empty water bottle, mobile and computer/ laptop chargers, handkerchiefs, socks etc. Create your own list and use it every time you travel.
  • For international travel: Try to travel light, don't keep too many things in your hand luggage. If you have too much of stuff for your check-in you may also want to consider shipping it via Fedex because at times it is cost effective.
  • For Domestic travel: Try and avoid checking in the luggage, it will save you a lot of time if you can accommodate most stuff in your hand luggage and avoid check-in luggage.

Important details

  • Download your ebooks while you are at home, don't wait till the last minute to download it at the airport. Use applications like 'Pocket' to save all your internet reading material offline.
  • Be sure to check-in online as soon as possible, most of the time it is 24 hours before the journey.
  • Check if you can use your airline's mobile app for the boarding pass.
  • Luggage tags: You may use "return me" luggage tags, these help your bags find way back home in case you lost them.
  • Click here to see the Return Me Luggage Tags
  • They can also be used with the LED illuminated motion sensitive Luggage Tag holder. It helps you identify your bag as soon as it is on the baggage carousel.
  • Before going to the airport or before the security check- transfer all your money, cards and keys into a pocket of your hand luggage or into your coat/ jacket. This way you don't need to put everything in the plastic tray. Similarly after going through security, be aware of pick pockets and thieves.

Other Hacks

  • Always ask for free upgrade, there is nothing wrong in asking.
  • Have food outside the airport than inside the airport. Food at the airport is overpriced. Similarly, prefer food at the airport than buying it on the flight itself.
  • Don't use the first rest room as soon as you get out of the flight after landing, most likely it will be over crowded.
  • Pick the security line that's all the way to the left. Since most folks are right-handed, studies show that lots of people naturally veer to the right when choosing a security checkpoint line, leaving fewer people on the left. Also, pick a line that has business men and women because they generally know the protocols due to frequent travel while family, kids, tourists may take more time to pass through the security check process.
  • Take a screenshot of your mobile app boarding pass. In case the app crashes, you can use the screenshot.
  • Drink a lot of water before the flight, and one cup of water per hour on the flight. If you drink that much of water prefer to sit on the aisle seat. Skip tea or coffee.
  • Carry moisturizer for your hands and face. Also use lip balms, if needed.
  • Always recline slowly to avoid crashing into someone's head or laptop. Look behind before reclining your chair.
  • Be careful while opening the luggage bins on the top, some bags might have shifted position while the flight was in motion.
  • While in the coach, request to move to an emergency seat after takeoff or when the boarding is over.
  • Count the number of seats between you and an exit. It may come handy during an emergency scenario when there is a lot of chaos.
