The concise version is a very good read if you are traveling on a flight or a train/ bus. This is a very practical guide for those who want to make a career in sales. To me, it was very helpful because even in the IT industry I have to perform some pre-sales activity and then eventually some sales activity as well. Authoring a book on speaking is not easy. This books explains in detail about how and what a speaker should do to improve in public speaking. The language of this book is not that simple and you may find it tough if you are a beginner in English language or reading books in English. Note, the advice given in this book is useful only if you are ready to implement in real life, just reading it without any action will not be helpful at all.

Highly recommended for those who want to improve their behavior continuously. Practical examples of how certain habits stop us from getting better; what we can do to identify those habits and how to implement improvements in our day to day routine.

Different people have different opinions on this book. I personally found the message very clear and very effective. To me it occurred that the structure of the book could have been better, it somehow didn’t quite end up being a seamless reading experience. Nonetheless, the law of attraction is something which has stayed in my mind ever since, of course I am of the opinion that a thought without action is not going to give any results.

Honestly I haven’t finished reading it completely yet because it is very thorough and detailed. It has over 600 pages. Also one needs to have basic understanding of financial concepts before one starts to read this book. I searched for some videos on YouTube to understand the summary of this book which made my reading easier. It is said that Warren Buffet followed the advice given by Benjamin Graham in this book. Warren considers Benjamin Graham as his mentor. So yes, this is the definitive book on value investing.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Satya Narayan Nadella was named CEO of Microsoft in 2014. In a letter to all Microsoft employees, he said, 'Many who know me say that I am deifned by my curiosity and thirst for learning. This is the fundamental attitude of lucky people. Their focus to learn new things increases the number of opportunities that come in their journey of life.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Taking inspiration from the above, I am sharing some of the things that I tried in last few years. These are examples of small things where I have tried to develop the attitude to 'do more'.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">

1. I had a good job, but still few years ago I asked myself what more can I do? Looked at the options and started with trainings. Within few years I got good hold over Oracle trainings and earned a good name as a corporate trainer within the company.

<div class="qtext_para" style="color: #333333; font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", "Hiragino Kaku Gothic Pro", Meiryo, serif; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
2. After few years, I asked myself the same question, what more can I do? Looked at the options and started my own blog <a class="external_link" data-qt-tooltip="blogspot.com" data-tooltip="attached" href="http://thetomorrowbeckons.blogspot.com/" rel="noopener nofollow" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: url("//qsf.ec.quoracdn.net/-3-images.new_grid.external_link.svg-26-d2ea5915bda62627.svg"); background-origin: initial; background-position: right 0.3em; background-repeat: no-repeat; background-size: 10.5px; color: #2b6dad; padding-right: 15px; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">The Tomorrow Beckons, published one article after another and today I have 148 article published on my blog with over 275982 pageviews. 3. The clock ticked, I moved on and yes in few years I asked the same question again, what more can I do? This time the opportunity came in the form of Toastmasters Club. I joined the club as a member and within a year got elected as President of the club.

4. While all of this was happening I started to contribure on Quora and till date I have some 808 Answers, 38 questions, 29 questions resulting in…

Now, I know that by no stretch of imagination these things can be considered on a yardstick for success but the point I am trying to make is how the attitude to do more has taken me into territories I never imagined I could venture into. I strongly believe if you think you are successful and have achieved a lot and that you don’t want to do anything more then it may just be the beginning of your downfall.

Lot of talented people don’t succeed either because they are laid back or because they are a victim of self doubt and fear. Developing an attitude to do more or newer things may help you achieve a lot more than you could have ever imagined.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I came across this intersting story on whatsapp...
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<div class="qtext_para" style="font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", "Hiragino Kaku Gothic Pro", serif; font-size: 15px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
An elephant took a bath in a river and was walking on the road. When it neared a bridge, it saw a pig fully soaked in mud coming from the opposite direction. The elephant quietly moved to one side, allowed the dirty pig to pass and then continued its onward journey.

<div class="qtext_para" style="font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", "Hiragino Kaku Gothic Pro", serif; font-size: 15px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
The unclean pig later spoke to its friends in arrogance, “See how big I am; even the elephant was afraid of me and moved to one side to let me pass”.

<div class="qtext_para" style="font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", "Hiragino Kaku Gothic Pro", serif; font-size: 15px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
On hearing this, some elephants questioned their friend, the reason for its action. Was it out of fear?

<div class="qtext_para" style="font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", "Hiragino Kaku Gothic Pro", serif; font-size: 15px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
The elephant smiled and replied, “I could have easily crushed the pig under my leg, but I was clean and the pig was very dirty. By crushing it, my leg will become dirty and I wanted to avoid it. Hence, I moved aside.”

<div class="qtext_para" style="font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", "Hiragino Kaku Gothic Pro", serif; font-size: 15px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">For example, if someone asks you “What is your salary?” and you feel uncomfortable to answer this question by saying a direct 'No, I don't want to tell you my salary' then take a deep breath, put a smile on your face and instead of an answer respond with a question “Why do you want to know?” This way you will pass a message that you are not interested in answering this question.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">I just told her I would respectfully do anything else asked of me but they were too high and I wasn't comfortable doing it. Most software professionals focus on the next salary hike they can get from a potential job switch or from an upcoming appraisal cycle. Due to this mindset of moving from one salary increment to another they miss the point of focusing on their career progression. There are other challenges as well. The software engineer title appears to be misleading at times. All that glitters is not gold, here are some bitter truths about Software Engineers:

<ol style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", serif; list-style-image: initial; list-style-position: initial; margin: 0px 2em 1em 0px; padding: 0px;">

The job title may be Software engineer but you may not engineer any software at all.

Some software engineers don’t write any code they just solve support tickets.

Before we make an attempt to find a root cause or a solution to this situation of software engineers let us take a look at the history:

<div class="qtext_para" style="color: #333333; font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", serif; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Offshoring of IT business started to grow in the late 1980s and 1990s. A lot of professionals from other industry/ domains jumped into software industry by learning Cobol and DB2, those were the days of mainframe computing. Few of them got a jolt in the layoffs of 2001–2002 when the dot com bubble burst occured. Some of them reskilled and survived, others went back to their original industry.

<div class="qtext_para" style="color: #333333; font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", serif; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Few years later with the surge in ERP software a lot of professionals with experience in finance, manufacturing, retail etc. switched career into sofware industry by learning packaged software like Oracle Apps and SAP.

<div class="qtext_para" style="color: #333333; font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", serif; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
But now when the IT industry is 30+ years old a lot of IT professionals get stuck in their careers because they are challenged and pushed by a much brighter younger generation(who can provide the same service at a lower cost).

<div class="qtext_para" style="color: #333333; font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", serif; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Imagine a 12 year experienced professional with above average software development and design skills but with no inclination towards people, process and project management. A software engineer with 6 to 8 years of experience can deliver the same work and output as compared to a 12 years of experienced professional. For the employer it makes business sense to get the work done by professional with 6 to 8 years of experience and hence the professionals with 10–15 years of experience get stuck.

<div class="qtext_para" style="color: #333333; font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", serif; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Where do these people go?

<div class="qtext_para" style="color: #333333; font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", serif; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
While some of them are able to climb the ladder of success in management roles, others have to take a detour. Some of these professionals migrate to jobs overseas, few switch into training and education and few into research. For details you may want to read Anand Vaishampayan's answer to Why don't I see senior citizen in IT sector in India, even though one gets paid handsome salary in it ?

What is the solution or alternate?

<div class="qtext_para" style="color: #333333; font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", serif; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Yes, some folks do take a decision to work at a low salary and survive and few others keep changing or upgrading their skills to stay relevant. Fundamental issue is the lack of focus in planning and making the right career moves. Just focusing on the next salary hike does not help in the longer cause. The scenario may be different in Non IT sectors but in IT the tough time for professionals with 10–15 years of experience has just begun. Its time for them to focus on Charles Darwin theory: It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.

<span style="color: blue; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">If you think you are indispensable, think again, because you might be wrong. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Few years ago, IT giants used to layoff workforce based on poor performance and at times due to the pressure of global economic crisis. But now w<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">ith the rapid advances in technology low level jobs might be under threat from software programs called BOTs. These BOTs are powered by artificial intelligence and have the ability to self-learn. Yes, digitization is the new normal in Indian IT Services Industry.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Your employer runs a business and every business needs to be profitable. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">You might be doing a great job for your organization but in the rapidly changing context it is better to get yourself a reality check. Here are some tough questions that you should ask yourself:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">1. Is your job going to be relevant in the next 5 years or is it candidate for automation or digitization?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">2. Will your skill or knowledge continue to contribute towards making your employer's business profitable?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">3. Can a professional with n-1 or n-2 level of work experience do the same job that you are doing today?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">4. In future, is there a probability that the customer may not pay as much money as they are paying today to get the work done?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">5. When was the last time you learned a new skill or a new process or a new technology? Are you getting outdated?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Your honest answer to these questions will tell you the exact situation of your job/ career. Your answer to these questions may be a call for action for you because no matter how good you are, you can always be replaced due to circumstances and changes that you don't control. Here are some of the actions that you should take immediately...
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">1. Identify and work out a Plan B for your future. This Plan B can be an alternate skill that you will learn or an alternate part-time business that you will run in parallel to your job.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">2. Save enough funds for the difficult times. At least have 6 months of salary in your bank account to face any adverse situation in case you lose your job.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">3. Predict the future of your industry. Read relevant articles published by top research companies to understand where the industry is headed and what are the potential job/ career opportunities of the future. Forecast your learning and training needs and be prepared to reskill yourself.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">To summarize, with changing times one needs to be prepared to do more and at the same time do something which is futuristic and acts as a differentiator. Sitting comfortably with the same job for years and years may mean that you are flirting with danger. It is time to not only think outside the box but also it is high time to act outside the box.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Amazing video on how your CTC is configured....
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I posted my first and probably my worst YouTube video on 14th Feb 2016 that is on Valentine's Day last year. It had nothing to do with Valentine's Day.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Here is that video...
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">As of today, 3/25/2017, this video has over 38,689 views, that is, some 65,468 minutes of watch time, 98 Likes and 23 Dislikes resulting in $13.69 of revenue. If you do the math you would know that it took around 2800 views to earn $1. So if this video gets 2800 per day then it can generate $1 per day, that is, around Rs. 65 per day, equivalent to Rs. 1950/- per month. Wow, that is a good amount considering that it has 23 dislikes and rightly so because I consider it as my worst video till date.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Now, let us just imagine if I have 10 such videos. The revenue generated would be 10 times, that is $10 per day or $300 per month. In India it would be Rs. 19,500/- per month. This is a great amount of money.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">But the fact of the matter is that my video didn't get 38K views at the rate of 2800 views per day. The rate was a lot slower, it was somewhere around 100 views per day. So the math done above is valid but the rate at which the revenue is generated depends a lot on the rate at which the video is being watched. Of course search engine optimization and promotion on social media makes a lot of difference.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">One more fact is that not every video that we prepare may get even 100 views per day, some of the videos don't get any views at all and some may just get 10 or 15 or 100 views in their entire lifetime. Such videos don't generate any revenue.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">So what should be done?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Simple solution is to prepare 10x videos, that is, prepare 10 times more videos than what you think you need to achieve around 3000 views per day. Rough calculation goes like this, 1 video gets 100 views per day then you need 30 videos to get 3000 views per day. But in order to create those 30 successful videos you may need to actually create 10 times more videos, that is, total 300 videos. Wohoooooo, creating 300 videos is a lot of work. Isn't it? Indeed, it is a lot of work but remember it is just one time effort, if you are able to do it once then the same video gets you continuous revenue for your lifetime. This is a great example of passive income generation.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I hope by now you have realized that it is NOT just the number of view counts that generates the revenue, what also matters is the watch time or the number of minutes your video has been watched. The geographical region from where it is being watched also matters a lot. So if in my example I had to get roughly 2800 views to earn $1 then it may not be true for others, some people make the same amount in comparatively lesser number of views and few others may even take a lot more than 2800. The data shared above is just my example for your reference purpose, there is no guarantee that it would work for you in the same exact way that it worked for me.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This directly relates to the quality of the content in the video. If your content is good there is no looking back.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Oh but wait, I didn't tell you yet how the revenue is generated? It is pretty simple, you generate the revenue by signing up for the Google Adsense Program. Through this program you allow Google to show advertisements on your YouTube videos and in return Google pays you a certain share of the revenue gathered from the advertisers. Google has an eligibility criteria and specific guidelines for registering publishers on its Adsense program. You may want to visit Google Adsense website to learn more.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">There are many more ways to generate revenue by creating video content. One such example is Lorecart - LEARN EVERYTHING ONLINE, this platform provides you the ability to upload your own videos and sell them online.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">To summarize, it doesn't matter <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">whether you are a chef or a mechanic or a teacher or a home maker or a beautician or a techie or a management professional. Opportunity is equal for all of us. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">If you are ready to put that little extra effort then you can make the most of Video sharing technology and The Internet sitting at your home.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Bob was turning 35 this Sunday, his hair started to grow grey and he was not as fit as he used to be in his prime. He was bored with his regular work routine and worried about the fact that his career was not going anywhere. On a lazy Saturday morning his friend James asked him to join for a workshop on Public Speaking. Bob was in no mood to do any work on a Saturday morning but when James insisted Bob joined him reluctantly.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">At the workshop, Bob was astounded to see very energetic and passionate speakers who had worked very hard to prepare and deliver their speeches. These speakers came from all walks to life: Engineering, Education, Technology, Law and Business etc. In his mind Bob started to compare himself with these folks. He started to feel a bit inferior because he was almost equivalent to them professionally but he was nowhere close to them when it came to public speaking. These folks were just outstanding.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">For two days, Bob couldn't sleep peacefully, the thought of being inferior was lingering in his mind. He finally decided to do what he always does when he confused, that is, he called me up. We met the very next day, he narrated all the details and shared his state of mind. It didn't take me a lot of time to understand his mental state because we are good friends since childhood. After listening to him I realized that he was going through pre mid-life crisis. He was showing the signs of anxiety and stress. He was comparing himself with others and feeling frustrated. I told him that he was overthinking the entire thing and he needed to reinvent himself.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">He exclaimed 'Are you kidding me? I am just 35 years old and doing well in my profession. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">What do you mean by reinvent?'
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I replied ' Take a deep breath, relax! Don't get worked up. I am not asking you to leave your day job. All I am asking you to do is to Act outside the box'. Below is the excerpt of what I told Bob that day:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Confront your weaknesses and fears
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Ask yourself what are you scared of? Make a list of all such things that you don't do because of fear of failure or because you think that it is your weakness. For example, it may be public speaking, making new friends, learning new technology etc. List these things down and then give yourself a challenge that you will learn and master these things one by one. Set a timeline for yourself and get started immediately.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Find out your biggest competitor and beat them
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">No matter what you do, you will always have competitors, find out who is your biggest competitor and challenge yourself to beat them. Set a timeline and create a plan of action. The competition may be at your workplace or in your friend circle or in your business. Give yourself a pat on your back and go for the kill and don't stop until you win.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Ask your spouse or girlfriend/ boyfriend this question
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">What do you think I am not good at? Or What do you think is impossible for me to achieve? Listen to whatever they say very carefully. Make a note of it, post that note in your bedroom and at your workplace. Promise yourself that from today you will not stop until you have reached your goal and proved yourself right. Take this as a challenge from your near and dear ones and go for the impossible.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The pre mid-life crisis hits you without any warning. When you are around 35 to 40 years of age you are generally content/ satisfied/ relaxed with whatever you have achieved in your professional career. Your work seems to be pulling all the energy out of you and it appears that there is no thrill left in life. During this time it is very easy to get depressed and demotivated like my friend Bob. To turn things around one really needs to give oneself a kick. Reinventing the lost charm is not easy but by taking up some uphill challenges one can recharge and re-energize the passion.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Give yourself that challenge today, confront your weakness and fears, challenge your competitors and dare to ask your spouse...What do you think I am not good at?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Go for it.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Timothy was feeling as if he was in a silver cage. The office appeared to be so nice. The environment and culture was great but somehow Tim felt his wings were cut short. He had been working with this company for 11 years and while he loved everything he did at work he wasn't sure if it was right for him to hang around anymore.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Have you ever been in the same situation as Tim? Have you ever felt unsure of your job? Have you ever got worried about the future prospects? If answer to any of these questions is yes, read on...

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">In this article we will share some signs that will help you know whether your boss or company takes you seriously, whether they value your work and if they have any future plan for your career growth.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Sign#1 - Ask your boss or the HR manager about your Career Path and note their response. Does the HR manager or your boss change the topic as soon as you mention the term 'Career Path'? If they do not provide a definitive answer and clear direction then it is a clear sign that you are not being considered for a bigger role.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Sign#2 - Look for internal job postings in your own company and express your interest when you see one. Does your boss allow you to apply for an IJP? Does the HR approve? And when you apply for these IJP's are you able to get through the selection process? If you are not able to get through due to any of the reasons given above then it's a sign that you are stuck at your current role.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Sign#3 - Has your boss helped you plan a backup who can take up your role when required? If your boss always gives you some reason or another for not creating a backup then it means that your boss is not confident that you are ready to take up a bigger role. It is a clear sign that you will not be able to grow.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Sign#4 - You receive a salary hike once in a year but other than that you do not receive any recognition or appreciation of your work. This is a clear indicator that your organization does NOT value your work enough. It is also a sign that you may need to move on.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Sign #5 - You put additional or extended hours at work to meet the tight deadlines but the organization doesn't respond in the same gesture. You don't get enough flexibility and opportunities to learn, reskill, upskill are limited. This may be an indicator that the company doesn't have any plans for your growth as a professional.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">It is also important to note if your boss gives you enough time on a day to day basis. You should also note if your boss has too many direct reportees and whether he/ she provides you get enough attention. If your boss is not spending enough time with you then it may mean that either he is very confident of your performance or he may not consider you important enough to spend time on you. This is where the five signs mentioned above may help you decide whether it's time to hang on or let go. When you note that these signs are becoming a reality then you need to take some necessary steps which will help you move on. Here are some of those key steps...

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Step#1 - Check your market value by floating your CV and do appear for some interviews.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Step#2 - Build your professional connections outside your company. Use Linkedin, Payscale, Glassdoor etc.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Step#3 - Research and read the latest industry, business and technology trends. Follow Gartner, Mckinsey and other leading research companies.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Step#4 - <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">After you see the response from the first few interviews, take a pause, draw a strategy, prepare well and then hunt for a better career option aggressively.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Once you receive an offer letter from the prospective new employer make sure that you research enough about your new employer. Ask the right questions to the new boss and the HR about your career growth and the growth and vision of the company in general. After all it's not just a job change, for you it is a big change that will define your career path. Be careful. All the best.

<span style="color: blue; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: blue; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">At a public gathering...Do you take a seat at the back because you are scared that the speaker may ask you questions? or is it because sitting at back is helpful in quiting the meeting if required? Consider this scenario...
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: blue; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: blue; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Your boss forwarded a meeting invite to you. Meeting is with the CXOs or senior leadership team. Your boss explains the agenda to you and informs you that you may have to present or talk about one or two key supporting points. On the day of the meeting when you enter the meeting room you see a center table with few chairs at the table and then you see another set of chairs kept adjacent to the wall. Few chairs on the center table are already occupied and few are vacant, you look around the room to see if your boss is around? He isn't. As people start to step in the room you get under pressure to pick a seat. What would you do? Where would you sit? Will you pick a seat at the center table or will you play safe and pick a chair adjacent to the wall?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your decision to pick a chair in the above scenario tells a lot about your character and your self image. It reveals a lot about your behavior and the way you deal with tricky situations. More than anything else it tells whether you believe in being a spectator or whether you really push yourself to be a participant each and every time you attend a gathering of people (meetings, seminars, town-halls, workshops etc.).

Here are few more scenarios...

1. Your manager calls for a team meeting. You enter the room and see that most of the seats are vacant. Where do you sit? Do you occupy the seats in the last row or do you go and sit in the front row?

2. You are attending an award function to support your friend or family member. Do you leave the function as soon as the award for your friend or family member is announced or do you attend the event till the time last award is announced?

3. One of your friend invites you as a guest to attend a toastmasters meeting. When you attend the meeting you get an opportunity to speak at the table topics event. What would you do? Would you take the opportunity to speak or let it go because you think you are not prepared and wonder what would people think of you?

4. Your department head is giving a speech about how the organization will progress in the next 2 years. Once the speech is over he opens the forum for the audience to ask questions. What would you do? Would you ask your query? or Would you look for someone else to ask the question on your behalf?

Developing a front bench or front row attitude requires lot of practice and focus. Here is my suggestion: Whenever you attend a gathering ask yourself: Are you only a spectator or is there a way you can become a participant and make a mark in the event or gathering? Here are some tips that may help you become better at making your mark as a good participant...

1. Always carry a notepad and a pen when attending any public meetings. This will help you in taking notes of the key point discussed.

2. Always ask for the meeting agenda and the list of attendees in advance.

3. Make sure you reach at the venue 5 to 10 minutes prior to the meeting start time.

4. Knowing the meeting agenda and the list of participants in advance should help you prepare some questions that you may ask in the question and answer session.

5. Avoid arguing with the speakers during a public meeting. There is always an option to connect offline if you don't get a suitable answer.

6. Always pick a seat in the front or the second row from the front. Make sure you don't occupy a seat which is marked as reserved for other guests. Avoid siting towards the end of the hall.

In general, the point I am trying to make is that with a little bit of presence of mind and preparation you can elevate your status from being a spectator to being a good participant. Your attitude to make things happen matters a lot. This reflects in a lot of small things that you do on a day to day basis. Developing a habit of making your presence felt is a key attribute of successful people. You don't always need to take the center stage or be in the limelight but if you are smart you can make your presence felt in a small but effective way, which is equally important. At last remember that just talent may not be enough for you to succeed. Never under estimate the power of doing small things. God is in the details.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">You can't ask a fish to climb a tree or ask a pig to bark. But this is exactly what most IT giants are about to do. Let us understand how...

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Today as a customer when you need 'service' you call the customer service desk or ping the customer service agent on instant messenger. A portion of the phone/ call support agent's work has already been replaced by the IVR machines but the instant messaging service-agents are not replaced by the chat BOTs yet.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Leading research and IT companies have forecasted that the next 2 years will be the years of digital transformation and in this period chat BOTs will replace humans in almost all forms of first level instant messaging interactions.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">But is this for real? Will we be able to create intelligent, self-learning chat bots that will be able to succeed with the help of natural language processing (NLP) to a level where they can replace humans?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The answer is Yes and No. Yes because a miniscule amount of work will certainly be taken over by the BOTs and No because there is a limitation on how far the BOTs can go. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Getting a BOT to respond to customers/ users may work at a very basic level, for example, <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">the BOT may perform tasks like...

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Gathering information from the customer/ user

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Raising tickets or cases on-behalf of the user

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Sharing URLs or information or status based on the keywords entered by the user.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Chatbots in banking, chatbots in healthcare are few examples where chatbots integration with messengers(IM) has become reality. However, t<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">he above scenarios may be applicable to only a limited set of use cases. At best it may serve as an equivalent to the IVR system for receiving calls, that is, the BOT will route the customer to the right set of information or raise a case/ ticket as mentioned above. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">It may not work as soon as the customer/ user states a problem which requires analysis or in scenarios where 'human' behavioral skills are required to understand and manage the customer issues/ expectations.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">For example, BOTs will not be able to...
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">- Take ownership
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">- Be Proactive
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">- Identify when a certain issue may be on the verge of escalation
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">- Know Implication
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">- Follow-up / Identify and remove road-blocks
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">- Ask for help
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">There is one more aspect that seems ignored at this point, that aspect is of 'user adoption' and 'user acceptance'. This requires real attention. No one knows how the customers/ users will respond to a situation when they get to know that they are not chatting with a human but with a BOT which is trained to support only few scenarios.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Having said the above my fear is that if not used wisely <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">BOTs may in turn give rise to...
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">- Confused Users/ Customers
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">- Frustrated customers/ Reduced CSAT
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">- Increased cycle times of issue resolution
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">- Potential loss of revenue

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The reason why I say so is because we are only looking at one side of the story. We are talking about humans being replaced by BOTs on the 'response' side of the chat but we are not at all looking at the humans on the 'request' side of the chat window. By 'request' side I mean the users/ customers/ or people who are facing problems. For the user and customer groups it will be a huge culture change. The success of chat BOTs will depend largely on how the culture change is managed. Hence, while driving operational excellence through digitization the IT giants should not ignore this 'human' side of the reality. If they do, it may backfire at them. Giving the command of frontline support to non-humans is like flirting with danger. Beware!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I hope you find this information helpful. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) introduced a new legislation ‘‘High-Skilled Integrity and Fairness Act of 2017’’ which sent shivers down the spine of Indian IT companies. As a result the stock market value of few Indian IT giants slumped all of a sudden.

“My legislation refocuses the H-1B program to its original intent – to seek out and find the best and brightest from around the world, and to supplement the U.S. workforce with talented, highly-paid, and highly-skilled workers who help create jobs here in America, not replace them,” said Lofgren. “It offers a market-based solution that gives priority to those companies willing to pay the most. This ensures American employers have access to the talent they need, while removing incentives for companies to undercut American wages and outsource jobs.”

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Lot of people are speculating the pros and cons of this proposed bill. At the surface it appears that the cons are more than the pros. Here is a quick analysis of the potential impact to Indian IT Industry and Indian employees:

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Impact to Indian employees working in the USA on H-1B

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Remember, employers need to make their profit margin. If this becomes a law you may lose your job because your employer may hire a local American at a lower cost. Instead of paying 130k to an Indian on H-1B, the employer may pay 90k or 100k to an American employee. As a result the folks who are currently in USA may need to pack their bags and come to India.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">When a lot of skilled H-1B employees will return from USA the demand and supply situation will change here in India hence the low performing IT professionals in India may lose their jobs too.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">On top of this, a lot many people with H4 and EAD may return to India as well, resulting in greater supply of talent. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This legislation has been introduced at the time other executive orders have been issued by the President. Few of those are:

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Titled “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry
into the United States,” the EO "suspends" the immigrant and
nonimmigrant entry of all nationals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan,
Syria, and Yemen for 90 days from the date of the order.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The same EO also suspends the visa interview waiver program
that was in place at U.S. consulates worldwide. The interview waiver program,
referred to as “dropbox” processing in some U.S. consulates, exempted some visa
renewal applicants from an in-person consular interview. The suspension of the
interview waiver applies to all U.S. visa applicants regardless of country of
nationality or citizenship, and means that all visa applicants will be required
to attend an interview unless it is not required by statute. This will likely
cause wait times for visa interviews to increase significantly. <u5:p></u5:p>

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The EO also instructs the State Department and various
security agencies to implement significant changes to screening processes that
will apply to all immigration programs. Further details on this new program are
expected in the days ahead.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">President Trump has also signed two other Executive Orders
directly related to immigration programs, with more expected to be issued in
the days ahead. On January 25, 2017, he signed an EO titled “Enhancing
Public Safety in the Interior of the United States” and on January 26, 2017,
another EO titled, “Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements,”
was issued.<u5:p></u5:p>

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">While many details set forth in these EOs remain to be
fleshed out, it is clear that the Trump Administration intends to place an
increased emphasis on immigration enforcement, particularly in regard to the
removal of those who have been convicted of crimes and those who have been
charged with crimes. While the Administration is expected to provide more information
about its enforcement priorities in the days ahead, it is expected that there
will also be an increase in efforts to remove persons who have overstayed after
a lawful entry.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Before we dive into understanding the reality let us first<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> understand w<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">hat is protect and grow American Jobs act?

This bill amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to revise the definition of "exempt H-1B nonimmigrant" to eliminate the masters or higher degree requirement and raise the annual salary threshold requirement from $60,000 to $100,000.
(An exempt H-1B nonimmigrant is a nonimmigrant H-1B [specialty occupation] worker meeting certain criteria whom an H-1B dependent employer may hire without having to satisfy certain otherwise applicable H-1B hiring criteria. An H-1B dependent employer is generally one whose H-1B workers comprise 15% or more of the employer's total workforce, with different thresholds applying to smaller employers.)
The bill requires an inflation adjustment to the salary threshold every third fiscal year.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Source of above information is congress.gov

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Now that we fairly know the intent of American administration, it is quite logical that most folks would panic if their job depends on any of these decisions. But this is not the first time that people will lose jobs because of certain decisions(for e.g: changes to h1b visa) that they don't control. It has happened multiple times in the past for different reasons. Here is a recap from the recent past (source Wikipedia):

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">2008: The Recession of 2008 (also called the Recession of the late 2000s or the Great Recession) was a major worldwide economic downturn that began in 2008 and continued into 2010 and beyond. It was caused by the Financial Crisis of 2008.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">2000: Dot-com bubble burst. The stock market crash of 2000–2002 caused the loss of $5 trillion in the market value of companies from March 2000 to October 2002. Laid-off technology experts, such as computer programmers, found a glutted job market. University degree programs for computer-related careers saw a noticeable drop in new students. Anecdotes of unemployed programmers going back to school to become accountants or lawyers were common.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Hundreds and thousands of folks lost their jobs due to these events in the past but most of them eventually managed to survive. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> If anything similar happens in 2017-2018 then t<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">his valuable information from the history should give us the wisdom to plan for a 'recession proof' future.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Here is what one should do...

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Find out if your job is under threat

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">It is clear that there will be direct or indirect impact if you work for an American company or any other global company who can get impacted by these policy changes. Find out the impact to your own company and department by reviewing the current customer base, future pipeline, internal policy and strategy.

If your job depends on any of any of the global policy changes understand that you will achieve nothing by pressing the panic button. Best thing to do in this situation is to carefully plan the next 3 to 9 months.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">In situation of lay-offs high cost and low value-add <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">workers are removed first. Check if you belong to this category by asking simple questions:

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Is my work drying?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Am I sitting idle most of the day?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Am I doing anything additional than the regular mundane tasks

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Am I doing any value-add work needed by the company?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Is my department or my boss under cost cutting pressure?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Do I get paid highly as compared to my co-workers but I do the same job?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">If answer to one or more questions is 'Yes' then it's time to upgrade your skill and change your attitude.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">What Should You Do?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Prepare for the worst. Save funds equivalent to salary of 6 to 9 months. This will help you support yourself in worst case scenario.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">If you are in based out of USA then you should start searching for job options in your home country. Figure out the potential companies who may not get affected and look for desired profiles and roles. It's time to get active on LinkedIn.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Start reading top industry research to understand where the Industry is heading and what are the top trends for the next year. For example, Gartner says that By 2018, more than 3 million workers globally will be supervised by a "roboboss." This means that factors other than the USA policy change that will affect jobs a lot more in the coming year. It also means that there will be newer job opportunities.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">If your current job is a low level IT job that involves lot of repetitive work then it's time to upskill yourself. Reading latest research as mentioned above may help you find the right direction. Again, remember that there is no need to panic, all you need to do is find the right direction. For IT professionals: IoT, AI, Mobility, Analytics, NLP, Blockchain, Data Science are some of the new horizons.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Most folks make the mistake of being confined to their area of expertise/ special skill. Make no mistake, being an expert is definitely an asset. But in addition to being an expert in a specific domain/ technology/ market segment, one also needs to acquire generic skills like People Management, Sales, Public Speaking and Interpersonal skills, Administration and Project Management etc. These are evergreen skills which are always in demand and acquiring these skills gives you the much required edge over your competitors.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">In general understand the fact that <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">there is no such thing as a good, safe, secure job<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">. Hence, you always need to have a plan B or plan C to support your family and meet your daily needs. Also remember that no company or organization wants to let go good people. Everyone wants to retain their best of staff. There is always a need for competent people even in the time of recession. All you need is the 'focus' to remain competent.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I hope you find this information helpful.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Number one habit to follow during your free time is to read good content.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Create new contacts. Get to know more and more people. This is the most under-rated thing but comes in handy in the time of need. Target to make 50 or 100 new contacts every month at your workplace.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Identify 2–3 things that you want to learn. Also identify the resources, reading material, free webinars, videos etc. that will help you learn those 2–3 things. As soon as you get some free time at work divert your attention and focus on learning. This is the best you could do rather than gossip or chit chat.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Next best thing is to invest time in updating your CV, updating your LinkedIn profile and sharing it with the job consultants. This will help you remain up to date. You may also consider appearing for job interviews even if you don't want to change your job. This will give you some real practice and clear idea of how the current job market is trending.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Subscribe to online hobby groups, forums and blogs. This will automatically send lot of good stuff in your inbox which you can read as per your convenience. This is one time effort which proves very beneficial. You may also want to configure aggregator apps like Flipboard to keep you updated on the current trends.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Attend trainings/ workshops. Based on the time available find out which trainings you want to attend. This will help you remain in touch with the latest tools, technology and processes.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Devote some time for social causes. You may want to join your corporate social group and help the community.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Participate in the extra-curricular events organized by HR. This is a wonderful way to socialize with people and spend some quality time on company/ team events.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Last but not the least, use your free time to organize yourself. Plan the activities for next few months or years. This will help you to be disciplined.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">If you control your free time then you can practically add lot of value to yourself. Take a pause and look at your schedule, get rid of those gossips and water cooler chit chats, these are not the best ways to pass time at work. Avoid that extra coffee break and get organized. There is a lot that can be done by small adjustments, it is just a matter of getting disciplined. Try it now because <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Time and tide wait for no one.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The power of 1000.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I read somewhere that in the information age driven by social media if you have 1000 'active' genuine contacts/ followers/ fans then a lot of good things happen to you automatically.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Here are some of those good things:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">1. A<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">ll the top trending content liked, upvoted or shared by your contacts on various social media sites is delivered in your feed. This ensures that you are always updated with the latest business and technology trends.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">2. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">You are updated with the latest happenings around the world because your contacts are active on social media. There is hardly any need for you to watch TV News.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">3. Your contacts like, upvote or share your content with their network which helps you build your personal brand. You reach increases exponentially.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">4. You get to know of hobby groups and communities on social media followed by your contacts and this in turn expands your own reach and enables to you reach millions of like-minded people around the globe.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">5. Last but not the least there are some tangible benefits as well. Some examples include: You get to know the latest job openings of your interest or if you are an artist you get to know of the latest events or concerts <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">happening<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> in your area or online. You can also create your own content and promote or sell it on social media through your contacts.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">To start with I didn't completely believe in this concept of having 1000 genuine contacts, but I still found it interesting enough to explore and see if works. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I looked at my social media contact list. It looked somewhat like this: Facebook around 320 friends, LinkedIn around 180 contacts, Quora around 380 followers.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I then decided to grow my network and that is when I found how difficult it is to add 1000 contacts on social media. Forget about 1000 I struggled to get 500 contacts on Facebook. I realized one primary reason why I struggled on Facebook is that I don't have 500 contacts in my real life and that is why I can't have 500 friends on Facebook.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I also realized that similar to Facebook each social media website has a niche or unique purpose and I will be only successful if I follow or master that niche. For example:

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I will be able to increase my followers on Quora only when I write quality answers

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I will be successful on LinkedIn only if I am professionally active

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I will be popular on Instagram only if I post quality pictures

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">After I had figured that out I started afresh on my mission to g<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">row my network. Today, I have 540 Facebook friends, 458 LinkedIn contacts and over 975 followers on Quora.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Did I reap any tangible benefits? No, not yet. But I realized that I have started to see a lot of quality information flow in my feed not just because a lot of people follow me but because I follow a lot of good people and in the process I have subscribed to a lot of good topics/ forums and blogs. I directly get the mind share of top CEOs, CIOs, authors and thinkers. This helps me grow personally as well as professionally.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I am still far away from following or adding 1000 people to my social network but I see real value in doing so. And mind you the goal is not to add 1000 random contacts, the goal is to add 1000 'active' genuine people who can add value. Becasue a lot of people are dormant or passive users the task of adding 1000 'active' users is not at all easy. In order to find those 1000 people one may need to add 10,000 people or more but as long as you believe in the power of networking this is not an impossible task.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">At the core of this theory of having 1000 contacts on social media is the habit of reading good content. If you are eager to learn new things and if you want access to best of the content then the social media can play a very vital role. The pace at which technology is changing you never know how the power of your social network may work wonders for you. All you need is the focus, perseverance and belief. Hence, <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I believe in the power of 1000, do you?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I hope you find this information helpful.

Last week Sarah made a mistake in one of her assignments. Sam immediately caught the error and called a meeting with all the team members. He went on to share the incident along with the details of what went wrong. Sarah was annoyed with the fact that her manager Sam gave her negative feedback in front of the whole team. She approached him and said: <span style="color: red; font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">I know I made a mistake but is it right for you to give me all the feedback in front of the whole team? You could have done it in private too! I am really disappointed.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> Sam responded <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">I had no intentions to make you feel bad in front of the whole team; I was just doing my job and thought that if I share the incident with the whole team then everyone can benefit from the information and avoid making similar mistakes in future.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">This is a classic example where the implicit laws of giving and receiving feedback are not being followed.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Here are those laws:

Never give negative or critical feedback to individuals in a public forum. Everyone has an ego. As a manager you need to be careful of not hurting any one's ego. Make sure that you first share critical or negative feedback in private and then share the information with the larger audience.

Utilize one on one informal discussions as a mode to share critical feedback. Rather than calling up for a formal one on one meeting, a quick discussion over coffee may be a good informal setting to share feedback in one on one discussion. However, if this doesn't work, you may need to go back to a formal setting later.

Avoid sharing critical feedback on e-mail. Emails are best suited for sharing information or action items but e-mail should be avoided as far as sharing critical feedback with a team member is concerned. If arranging an informal meeting is not possible then the next best way is to call for a formal in-person meeting. If you want to record the events then you may capture and share the meeting notes after the meeting is over.

Giving Feedback to Employees

As a manager one needs to careful while giving feedback because one bad experience can have a lot of negative impact on the associate. Sometimes employees feel that the Manager only looks at the negative aspects hence it is very necessary to share the positive feedback from time to time. Unlike critical feedback scenarios, public forums are ideal place to share positive feedback. Managers should encourage the culture of sharing positive feedback in public forums. Following are some tools and techniques to share positive feedback:

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">A quick 'Thank You' and/ or appreciation email

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Nomination for award or reward certificate

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Sharing the good work done by the employee in team meeting/ group forums

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Awarding gift vouchers/ value points as per policy

Receiving feedback from employees

As far as receiving feedback from the employees is concerned, managers should utilize the following proven tools and techniques:

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">One on one meetings

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Online Surveys

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Informal group meetings(Like Lunch, Coffee or Tea Meetings)

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Gamification techniques

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Giving or receiving feedback is a tricky thing. Once has to be very careful irrespective of whether you are giving feedback to employees or giving feedback to managers or giving feedback to your boss. While there are so many tools and techniques available some people still find it difficult to share or ask for feedback. Sometimes they are just scared of listening or saying negative things and hence they avoid asking or giving feedback to/ from their boss or employees. In the end, I would like to stress that one should not shy away from giving or receiving feedback because it is a very critical factor in the overall growth of a person/ organization/ society. However, one needs to be careful in picking the right medium of communication to convey as well as receive the message. Needless to say that it should be done in the right spirit, sharing feedback with wicked intentions does not serve any purpose.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">To conclude, here is a quote from Ken Blanchard...

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">"FEEDBACK IS THE BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS"

This year he has been nominated for the people's choice award in the best employee category and is one of the top contender for next promotion. <b style="color: #333333; font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">11 Outstanding Life Hacks That Everyone Should Know...
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Hack#1 Remembering and calling people by their name. <span style="color: #333333; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">You are at a party with your friend and you got introduced to 8 new people whom you have not met before. The best thing you can do is remember each one of them by their name. Memorize their faces and their names. Next, time you meet them call them by their name. K<span style="color: #333333; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">nowing that a person remembers your name is a great feeling and hearing it from someone whom you have just met once is music to ears<span style="color: #333333; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">.<span style="color: #333333; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> <span style="color: #333333; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This is a great way to create contacts in personal and business circle.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Next best thing: In addition to their name, (Hack#2) remember one unique or peculiar thing about them. So next time when you run into them you can call them by their name and also mention about their unique liking/ hobby/ activity etc. For example, Hey John, Glad to see you again. How was your trip to Utah? Guess what, John will be amazed at your memory and he will be very comfortable talking to you. You just won a friend.

<span style="color: blue; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Hack#3 Be Lavish In Your Praise. <span style="color: #333333; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Suppose you visit someone’s house/ place. Within the first 5–10 minutes look around the living room/ garden carefully and find out one thing that stands out. Now, openly praise that one thing in front of your hosts. Be lavish in your praise. This will ease out a lot of nerves/ serve as an icebreaker resulting in a very open and positive conversation.
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: blue; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Hack#4 Anchor high, and don't give up.<span style="color: #333333; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> The more you ask for, the more you get. It's as simple as that. Suppose you think you deserve $100k salary per annum salary so when you discuss with the recruiter ask for $130k or $140k, this will give you room for negotiation and will definitely get you more than $100k.
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="color: blue; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Hack#5 How to increase affinity?<span style="color: #333333; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> While responding to someone in a conversation: Repeat a portion of what the other person just said, for example, if you ask someone "What is your favorite sport"? And they respond "it's football". <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">Tim is stressed and worried. His boss has been giving him a very bad time at work. Verbal abuses and too much of workload has taken a toll on Tim. He doesn't know how to handle this situation, he just wants to quit.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Lot of people go through the same situation as Tim. Having a bad boss is one of the reason but at times there are several other reasons which may lead you into thinking whether you should quit your job? Some of the common reasons are:

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">no work-life balance

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">too much work pressure

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">lack of challenging work

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">boredom etc.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">But wait contrary to the common belief, I don’t think
that following are the valid reasons/ signs to leave the current company, hence
let us strike them out:

have a bad boss</strike>

<strike><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">·You
are stressed due to work pressure</strike>

<strike><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">·You
don’t have challenging work and you are bored</strike>

<strike><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">·You
are facing harrassment at workplace</strike>

<strike><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">·You

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">If you are facing any of the above situations or challenges then DO NOT LEAVE your job. All of these situations can be fixed. There is always a work around to get rid of a bad boss. There is always a process to report harassment. There is definitely a way to manage your worklife balance and get rid of work pressure and stress. Last but not the least if you are bored that means that you need to sitting on a pile of opportunity - it is just a matter of reaching out to the right people with right intentions and engage in skill upgrade and/ or innovation.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Now coming to the point. Following are the signs that indicate moving on is on the cards…

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">You are not getting the deserved growth/ the management does not have a career growth plan for you.

If the company has a pool policy then you may want to quit before they ask you to leave.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Lastly, when your boss or HR has given you a direct or indirect indication that its time to leave.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">To summarize, I have seen many people leave in panic just because they don’t think rationally. Most times they end up in a bigger mess. I hope after reading this article you will be able to take the right decision at the right time.

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: medium;">As a 60 year old Tom was really not able to understand how cool or silly is it to search for a Pokeman in your vicinity? While some people find it amusing, there are others who find it terrible. Sometimes Tom felt left behind because he was not that tech savvy. The bigger question however was whether he was ready to adapt and learn?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">A lot has been already said about the negative impact of the mobile games and apps on our society. Technology brings these challenges along with the benefits. As humans the best we can do is to be proactive for handling such situations.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Everything reaches its destiny at the right time. To us it may appear that certain things are happening too early or too late but nature has its own way of doing things at the right time. The Pokeman rage will soon get over and the world will move to the next cool gadget or funky app. Don't forget few years back Angry Birds was a similar rage too.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">It is not just the mobile games, the whole world is changing too fast with mobile computing technology. This however makes me wonder whether I am able to keep pace with the super-fast changes? Am I too slow to realize the pace at which things around us are changing? May be yes, may be no.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">While I was puzzled, I came across these examples of how things can work differently for different people:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">-------------------------------------------------------<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">-------------------------------------------------------

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Someone may be growing old, say 30+ years of age but still single. Someone else may have got married early but 'waited' 10 years before having a child. Then there is another who had a baby within a year of the marriage. All of them are doing things at their own pace, there is no right or wrong.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">New York located on the east coast of United States is 3 hours ahead of California (West coast) but it does not mean that California is slow, or that New York is fast. Both are working based on their own "Time Zone."

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Someone graduated at the age of 22, yet waited 5 years before securing a good job; and there is another who graduated at 27 and secured employment immediately! Both are successful.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Someone became CEO at 25 and died at 50 while another became a CEO at 50 and lived to 90 years.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">There are certain things you control and there are certain things that you don't control. Everyone works at their own pace. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">People can have things worked out only according to their pace. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Your Colleagues, friends, younger ones might "seem" to be ahead of you. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">May be some might "seem" behind you. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Don't envy them or mock them, they are good with their pace and y<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">ou are good with yours!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">There is a bit of wisdom that goes: "You need to earn to walk before you can run".

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Don't be in a hurry to run because someone else is ahead of you.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Learn at your own pace.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Grow at your own pace.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Walk at your own pace and run at your own pace.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This is true for all aspects of your life including financial know-how. Even the genius of mathematicians need to start learning math with 1+1=2. Don't rush yourself through the learning process because it is the process and the rigor that will make you rich emotionally and mentally.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">-------------------------------------------------------<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">-------------------------------------------------------

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This made me realize that technology will change at its own pace. Even for tech savvy people moving from laptop culture to mobile app culture can be a big shift. So if I don't have the latest app or game on my phone I don't need to panic.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">A lot has been already written regarding demonetization of Indian currency. Some experts see it as a bold move while few question it as a political stunt. The government however looks firm on its decision and determined to take this forward towards cashless economy.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I was wondering what a cashless economy is and then I saw this notification on Indian Railways website

Government of India encourages people to move towards a Cashless Economy. This can be achieved by use of debit, credit cards, electronic payment gateway systems such Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Real Time Gross settlement (RTGS) in India. The advantages to citizens of a country in a Cashless Economy are: •Risk of loss of cash while carrying is avoided

•Facilitate exact payment and reduce transaction costs
•Convenience in payment and management of utility bills, purchases and other financial transactions.
•It helps to authenticate financial transactions and maintain proper record facilitating better tax compliance and increasing tax base.
•Digital payments indirectly reduces expenditure by reducing need for printing of currency notes and its transportation
•Electronic transactions helps in curbing corruption and black money flow, thereby helping in economic growth of the country
•Lesser use of cash prevents money laundering and better tax compliance
•Increased tax base would result in greater revenue for public welfare activities

Indian Railways offers cashless ticketing option to its customer through internet ticketing on IRCTC website for booking reserved tickets. More than 58% of the train accommodation is reserved through e-ticketing . IRCTC also provide option for purchasing Season Ticket for suburban train services on Western and Central Railways. Facility for purchasing unreserved tickets through mobile phones is available at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Secunderabad. Further Automatic Ticket Vending Machines dispensing unreserved tickets using smart cards are provided at over 1000 locations over CR, ER, ECoR, NR, NER, NWR, SR, SECR, SCR, SER, SWR, WR and WCR. The smart cards can be purchased from nominated counters at the stations.
Indian Railways seeks your cooperation and support in helping the Government and the nation in creating a cashless digital economy.

After reading this notification, the critic inside me started to question:

Is India ready for this kind of a change?

Do we have the infrastructure in place to make our country completely cashless?

How does the Government expect Indians to use digital payments when most people don't have access to reliable electricity?

While I was still puzzled I came across the below DD News video on youtube:

Akodara, India’s 1st digital village handles post demonetisation situation in a hassle-free manner

Wow, I found this amazing. A village of 1200 people is completely cashless. Government's move of cashless economy then started to make sense to me. Logic is very simple. To start with those who have electricity and internet will use digital payments others will not. And the government will work towards getting internet and electricity access to the rural and remote areas. It will take time but will happen for sure. We need to make a start somewhere.

We cannot expect the government to kick off digitization only when all of India will have electricity and Internet access. That is not practical.

The fact that we have so many Internet users in India reading this article is a testimony that we should kick off digitization right here, right now.

India - Let's go cashless.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Tom is extremely talented but for some reason he lacks in self confidence and always keeps a low profile. He always doubts himself and is never able to perform to his potential. I always used to wonder, Why? And recently when I attended a seminar I heard about the circus elephant syndrome, I quickly realized what is wrong with Tom. I am sure you might have heard about this elephant story too, but if not, I am summarizing it below:

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">This is the story of a baby elephant who is chained by its leg so that it can't run away from the circus. The chain is heavy and strong for the baby elephant to break, whenever the baby elephant tries to break the chain it cuts through its skin which results in severe pain. After few failed attempts to break free, the baby elephant finally gives up. Gradually the baby elephant grows up, but inspite of being a huge creature it continues to believe that the chain is strong and never makes any attempts to break free. As a result it continues to be chained at the circus for its life.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This same concept applies to humans as well and this is exactly what is happening to Tom. By direct or indirect influence of others we tend to form our beliefs from a tender age. Our mental conditioning (by our parents, relatives, neighbors, friends, teachers etc.) puts constraints and limitations on our thought process. With the constrained thought process we achieve very limited success and never realize our own true potential.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Here are some signs that will help you identify if you are limiting yourself by circus elephant syndrome...

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Your instinct tells you that you should go after a dream but your current job, situation, education, circumstances don't allow you to go after it as a result you give up and continue to be happy with what you have in hand

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">You have people around you who tell you that 'You can't do it', 'You have already got enough and you should be happy with what you have, don't be greedy'

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">You always hesitate to take the next big step even though at the back of your mind you know that you have the skill and potential to take that step

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">You admire successful people, you want to become like them but you run away from their company. You always hang up with people who are in the same boat as you are

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">You find one excuse or another to tell yourself why you can't do a certain thing

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Now that we know the signs of an elephant syndrome, let us look at some of the steps that we should take to get out of the rut:

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Everyone has a dream, but very few are able to convert the dreams into visions and visions into reality. The first step towards breaking free is converting the dream into achievable goals. Take a paper and pen and write down what you want to achieve and by when.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Get rid of the negative people around you. Get into the company of positive people, who can support and motivate you to achieve your goals. You need people around you who can tell you why and how you should achieve your goals. Stay away from people who pull you down.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Never hesitate. Don't doubt or second guess yourself. Go and talk to people. Take the necessary steps. Stop overthinking and give no room to worry and anxiety. Throw them out of the window.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Don't just admire successful people but study and follow their habits. Find out how are they different from the average people and try to learn from their success stories.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Every time you come up with a excuse for not doing a certain thing: Stop yourself from giving up. Ask yourself that one reason why you wanted to do this thing. Remind yourself why it is so important for you to achieve this goal. Don't give in to excuses.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">So here the message is: <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Sky is the limit, i<span style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-size: large;">f you break free from your own mental shackles<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">. Try to be the best version of yourself. Remember it is not you V/S someone else, it is always you V/S you, so make sure your best version wins. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Benny Bellamacina has beautifully summarized this in her quote: <b style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">'You are limited by your own imagination'<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">November 8th 2016 will be remembered for two big happenings in the history of United States and India.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">1. Donald John Trump's upset of Hillary Clinton in the United States presidential elections
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">and
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">2. Demonetization of Indian Currency as the Indian government declared the scraping of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 currency notes effective midnight of Nov 8th and Nov 9th 2016.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">There is no doubt that these events will have a long term impact, not only in United States and India but also in other global markets. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Common man around the world is shell shocked and puzzled, primarily because most people didn't see it coming.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">But when slowly the reality sinks in, you start realizing that there were cues and signals all around. It is just that we kept ignoring the cues until it became a huge reality.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Here are those cues...
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">In United States:

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Experts thought that Trump lacked in experience but they ignored the sentiment that Common Man wanted Change. Hillary who was already a part of the Obama administration and was not seen as an agent of Change.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Hillary was cheered as the first female president and the experts projected her as a symbol of Women leadership but they ignored the sentiments of the working class Americans who had other ideas

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Trump made debatable comments on H-1B visas, his plans to build a wall to avoid illegal immigrants from Mexico, countering terrorism in his own way and reforming the tax laws etc. Most people thought that his talks were not realistic but he was successful in making a connect with the common American Man. He was seen as a leader who could revive the American Dream rather than one who would focus on making America a global moral cop.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Impact: Some people have no idea what to do, they are just in a mode of panic and looking for options to migrate to another country.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">In India:

In 2014, Modi Government first started with a campaign to create at least one Bank account per family

Linked Bank accounts with Aadhar Card, PAN Card and Income Tax Return

Strengthened the IT backbone with various tools for collection and data mining

Then they followed it by Income declaration scheme and provided an opportunity to convert black money into white money by paying taxes

Finally surprised everyone with a bold move and scrapped the old currency notes

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Impact: All the black money/ dirty hard cash has all of a sudden become waste paper. Those who had millions are now scratching their head. They have no idea what just hit them.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">After reading these details are you able identify what is common between these two historic incidents and what is the learning for you? The learning is in this phrase: <b style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">God is in the details<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> or <b style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">Devil is in the details,<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> if you look closely at the details you will see signs and hints of the 'BIG CHANGE' coming your way.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Let me elaborate with one more example:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">-------------------------------------------------
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Suppose you have an online e-commerce business and your website ranks at #1 in the first page of google search results. What else would you ask for: Thanks to the perfect SEO(Search Engine Optimization) customers and users would automatically get routed to your website through google search.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Now imagine one morning all of a sudden google comes up with a change in its SEO algorithm, they call it Google Panda or Google Penguin or Google Pigeon and because of this algorithm change your website does not appear on the google search engine results anymore. As a result you lose all the incoming traffic from google and your revenues drops overnight.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This has happened to many websites in the past who have failed to notice the small cues/ signals(Press releases/ Newsletters/ Bootcamps/ Policy Changes) given by Google regarding the change they are bringing in their search algorithms.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">-------------------------------------------------

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This is an example of what could happen if are not reading the signs/ changes happening around you, be it your business or be it in your society. Over time, small waves of change turn into big tornados and cause very very severe impact on your business and your personal life.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Keep your eyes and ears open, don't just look but observe, and don't just hear but pay attention. God is in the details.
